For the architectural concept of this shop, inspiration was drawn from the Galleria Umberto I, which since 1890 has been a landmark and an elegant symbol of Naples’ long-standing commercial and entrepreneurial spirit in the world.
Far more than just a collection of shops and cafés, it represents a modern-day agora—still today a place of social exchange for businesspeople and Neapolitan society, where important decisions are made and new trends are born. With its timeless marble floors and columns, and its impressive glass dome, the Galleria Umberto I stands as one of the world’s historic architectural treasures.
The refined marble surfaces and rich color palette of the Galleria have been reinterpreted to ensure continuity with this concept rooted in the city’s commercial heritage, while integrating modern lines and design elements that reflect the elegant Neapolitan spirit.
From a sustainability perspective, the existing flooring has been preserved, and the suspended ceiling reimagined in a creative way. A certified, high-resolution printed wallpaper reproduces the iconic glass dome of the Galleria Umberto I, bringing a pleasant sense of daylight into the space and visually enhancing its height—similar to techniques traditionally used in Italian and Neapolitan architecture.
In addition to marble, brass has been selected for the metal finishes of furniture and shelving to introduce a touch of glamour, along with a warm, wood-effect material—also certified and eco-friendly—that recalls the historic shopfronts of the Galleria.
The result is a reinterpretation of the city’s commercial gallery within the retail gallery of Naples Airport—an environment that combines high-quality, elegant brands with the essence of Neapolitan character and the international appeal of accessible luxury in 90 square meters.
